Coral Springs, now 43 years old,
is one of the most successful planned communities
ever built. Known as “the City in the Country,”
Coral Springs has become the premier South Florida
community, known for its abundant parks, quality
schools, athletic programs, and attractive neighborhoods.
After World War II, Coral Ridge Properties, a land
development firm, started to develop communities
in Broward County. By the late 1950s, they were
running out of land to develop in the Fort Lauderdale
area and were seeking opportunities further west.
Taking its name from its natural spring water,
Coral Springs was incorporated in July 1963 as
a planned community for some 50,000 residents
but the project kept growing until reaching 117,549,
according to the 2000 census. New developments
include family homes and estate homes overlooking
the renowned Heron Bay golf course, as well as
elegant condominiums, villas and residences.
